Catalytic neutralization of hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide contact lens solutions require the use of a
catalytic disc, which is inserted or affixed in the lens case. This disc
helps to neutralise the hydrogen peroxide while disinfecting the lenses. The
lenses must be left in the solution for a minimum of six hours. This
procedure must be strictly followed to avoid discomfort caused by
residual hydrogen peroxide.
Because this method requires a slightly
larger lens case, it also means a higher consumption of solution.
