Our standard lens treatments
Following treatments are always included by our seasoned opticians when you purchase a pair of glasses here at Alensa. That way, you can be sure the glasses you’re wearing have state-of-the-art lenses that’ll keep your vision crisp and clear.
A UV filter
The reason we wear sunglasses is to protect our eyes from harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun. UV light may cause retinal damage and other eye problems, such as cataracts, for example. So, it’s important to keep your eyes safe at all times. UV protection is, however, not exclusive to sunglasses. Some contact lenses contain a UV filter and so do our clear lenses for glasses. In other words, a pair of glasses from us will keep your eyes protected while you’re out in the sun.
An anti-reflective coating
Although an eyeglass lens is clear, it is a glass-like surface that will always reflect light, either from the front or the back. An anti-reflective coating will prevent reflected light from hindering your vision. It’ll make sure your eyes are always visible from the front, without being obstructed by reflections caught in your lenses. And, it also eliminates glare and blinding reflections from the back. A scenario where this could matter, for example, is if you would be driving at night. Because reflection can be very uncomfortable and could pose a safety risk, it’s recommended to always get an anti-reflective coating for new glasses. Luckily, we’ve got you covered!
Extra lens hardening
Those of you who wear glasses know that our glasses get put through a lot, no matter how careful we are! We sometimes accidentally drop them, we might bump into things or we might not always clean them properly. Sadly, no lens is scratch-proof on it’s own. However, by adding a hardened scratch-resistant coating to the lenses, it makes them a lot more durable. That way, you won’t have to worry about damaged lenses, which is especially handy for children.
A self-cleaning coating
We usually wear our glasses on a daily basis, so our glasses are constantly exposed to dirt, particles and dust, making them harder to see through. Because of this, we often find ourselves using special sprays, wipes or cloths to clean them. Not to mention that it’s not always easy to get the lenses crystal clear again. A self-cleaning treatment causes far less dirt and dust to adhere to the lenses, making them much easier to clean. This type of treatment will keep your eyewear cleaner for longer. A common misunderstanding is lenses with a self-cleaning coating require no maintenance, but this is not true. You will, however, find that it takes far less effort and time to maintain clear lenses throughout the day thanks to this coating.
A hydrophobic coating
Not only dirt and dust pose a problem for glasses, but so does water. Rain or water splatter can stain the lenses and fog could hinder your vision. Those who wear glasses have all experienced it: you were outside in the rain or cold weather and when you enter a room, you need to wipe the drops or the mist off your glasses. And the problem isn’t just water from outside sources. Sweat also easily condenses onto lenses. A hydrophobic coating will reject water and moisture from the lenses. It does this by weakening the surface bonding among the water drop and surface of the lens. This will cause your lenses to not fog up or stain when they come into contact with moisture. A hydrophobic coating is also anti-static, which causes dust particles to be repelled. In other words, together with the self-cleaning coating, the hydrophobic coating will help keep your lenses clear and clean.
Extra features for glasses
When purchasing a pair of glasses with us, you can select extra properties to enhance or change your lenses. Here’s what we offer:
A blue light blocking filter
This filters and blocks blue light from digital devices such as phones, tablets and computer screens. This will reduce eye fatigue, increase productivity and improve sleep habits.
Photochromic or self-tinting lenses shade according to changing light conditions. They are clear indoors and darken when exposed to UV rays. This protects the eyes when needed.
This will turn your prescription lenses into proper sunglasses in order to protect your eyes from UV rays. We offer several levels of tinting. 85% tint provides an effect equivalent to normal sunglasses.
