Metabolites

Metabolites are substances produced as a result of any of the body’s chemical processes. They are divided into two groups, primary metabolites and secondary metabolites.

Primary metabolites are substances are naturally occurring, and are necessary for the proper functioning of the body, including growth, development and reproduction. Secondary metabolites are not naturally occurring, and can include medicines, flavourings, or other pharmaceutical products.
