Melanin

Melanin is a brown pigment that can be found in human skin, hair and iris of the eye. Eye color is determined by the amount of melanin in the iris. Blue and green eyes contain the least pigment. Newborns have melanin hidden in the iris, and it is usually slowly released a few months after birth thus determining babies‘ eye colour. People who suffer from ocular albinism do not have any melanin in the eyes.
